Research focus
My research focuses on the development of Biochar for the remediation of spent engine oil-polluted soils in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Primarily, it contributes significantly to Goal 15 (Life on Land) by addressing soil degradation and promoting ecosystem restoration. Biochar, a carbon-rich material derived from biomass, acts as a soil amendment, enhancing fertility and reducing pollutants' impact on biodiversity.
Furthermore, this research aligns with Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) as biochar's application can potentially mitigate the leaching of contaminants into water sources, safeguarding water quality.
Additionally, the use of biochar in soil remediation contributes to Goal 13 (Climate Action) by sequestering carbon and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
In essence, my research on biochar's effects in remediating polluted soil provides a multifaceted solution that supports various dimensions of sustainable development, embodying the interconnected nature of the UN SDGs.
