Research focus

I am a chartered organic geochemist with a background in geology and a fellow of both the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA). My research centres on carbon sequestration, low carbon energies, and petroleum systems. Over a decade of study and research in geochemistry and geology and relevant experience from the industry, I have immensely improved my understanding and made achievements in three broad interrelated themes: (i) Nutrient cycling (carbon, sulfur, iron, etc.) on earth, linked to global climate responses, (ii) Factors critical in hydrocarbon source rock formation, linked to past and modern biogeochemical cycles, and (iii) Pollution, bioremediation, and energy decarbonisation, linked to ecosystem health and sustainability. These activities have been closely tied to international research programmes and the energy industry targeting the exploration of low carbon energies, decarbonisation of energy production, mitigation of climate change, and the preservation of the natural environment.
