Research focus

My research primarily focuses on the ecological health assessment of rivers, streams, and lakes using fish assemblages. Under the impact of rapidly changing climate and anthropic disturbances, the riverine flow strongly influences the fish species, habitat, and ecosystems. Therefore, understanding the effect of varying environments on fish biodiversity and distribution remains a challenging task that I am actively pursuing. Furthermore, invasive species risk assessment has attracted relatively greater attention which is also the mainstay of my research endeavors. I am actively working on the fish movement under the longitudinal connections between riverine ecosystems. I am equally involved in research evaluating water quality and nutrient enrichment of large lakes and reservoirs and impacting the drinking water supply to urban populations. I am also passionate about aquatic pollution and studies dealing with heavy metals and other pollutants affecting freshwater fish populations and humans. I have good experience and study background in research and teaching related to aquaculture and socioeconomics of fisher communities in developing countries. I am also keenly interested in conservation and restoration research in freshwater ecosystems.
