Research focus

Multi- and cascading hazards, disasters, and resilience in hyper-expanding cities and their catchments. This work examines the role of culture, social and economic policies and natural hazards (mediated by changes to both the climate and human processes) to disasters and to the resilience to those disasters. In general terms, my research focuses on the role of the human process as a geological process, writ large.

SDG targets

11.5

Reduce the adverse effects of natural disasters

11.6

Reduce the environmental impact of cities

11.B

Implement policies for inclusion, resource efficiency and disaster risk reduction

13.1

Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate related disasters

13.3

Build knowledge and capacity to meet climate change

Projects

Using a multi-hazard and catchment-based approach to understand and increase resilience in hyper-expanding cities in Vietnam and the Philippines
