Research focus

My research broadly centers around biotechnology and focuses on three main topics: (1) the use of plants to improve food security as it pertains to human health, including the development of crops as production platforms to generate new medicines, vaccines or foods with improved nutritional content; (2) improving energy security and environmental sustainability using non-food crops and crop waste products; and (3) the impact of these research areas on society in terms of public perception, politics and policy.
