Research focus

Our research seeks to understand the fundamental processes underlying photosynthesis in the coastal marine environment, and applying this knowledge to coastal ecosystem conservation and in addressing sustainability grand challenges for rural and indigenous communities. Working across different habitats including coralline algal beds, mangrove forests and coral reefs, we have a particular focus on photosynthetic strategies under extreme light environments, carbon storage and habitat connectivity. We strengthen the impact of our research through multidisciplinary collaborations with other scientists, stakeholders, policymakers and managers, as well as leading a strong public engagement program.
